Principle and conditions

In the event of the loss or theft of one of the two registration plates of a motor vehicle, the holder is required to inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office immediately and may request a new one.

In the event of the loss or theft of both registration plates of a motor vehicle or the registration plate of a motorcycle, moped of 50-100 cc, tricycle, quadricycle, moped of under 50 cc or trailer, the owner must inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office immediately and may apply for a new registration with a new number.

Formulating the request

The request must be sent to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by submitting the following documents:

or

  • A copy of the declaration of loss made to the Police Department, in cases when this is undertaken by an authorised representative

or

  • A copy of the report of the theft, made to the Police Department or Police authorities abroad
  • A copy of a valid ID document (ID card or national passport with proof of address, or residence permit) or a copy of an extract from the Trade and Industry Registry, dated of less than 3 months
  • The payment, to be made by cash, cheque or postal order (clearable in Monaco or France), made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office and Visa or Mastercard bank cards only, in accordance with the current fee schedule

 

The application for registration must be made to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by presenting the completed documents listed above:

Submitting the application

You should submit the complete application without appointment to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office. A payment receipt and a copy of the loss declaration form, if applicable, will be provided.

Collecting the new documents

The new registration plate, will be available within 72 hours at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office reception desk on presentation of the payment receipt.

In the case of a new registration, the registration plates are handed over when the application file is submitted and the registration certificate will be available within 72 hours at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office reception desk on presentation of the payment receipt.
