Principle and conditions
When a vehicle, including a trailer or semi-trailer, is sold, the seller, lender or guarantor, discounter and assignee of the debt may ask the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office to register a pledge or security as collateral against the purchase price of the vehicle.
Applications for a pledge to be registered must be accompanied by a deed of charge that has previously been registered with the Department of Tax Services.
The registration must note the composition of the pledge (the characteristics of the vehicle), the names and addresses of the debtor and creditor, and the date and registration numbers of the deed of charge.
Registration is only effective if it is completed within 15 days of the date of issue of the vehicle registration certificate. Any applications submitted to the Licensing Office more than 15 days after issue of the vehicle registration certificate will thus be rejected.
Registration upholds the right to the pledge for a period of five years, can be renewed before this deadline, and ceases to have effect if it is not renewed before the end of these five years.
There is a fee associated with this service - Please see STC - Tarifs 2020 en vigueur
