Principle and conditions

In accordance with French Act no. 2018-166 of 8 March 2018 on student guidance and achievement, students must, no later than the month preceding their 21st birthday, complete the procedures relevant to their nationality, place of study and place of residence.

Steps to take

Whatever your circumstances, make sure you take the necessary steps during the month preceding your 21st birthday.

If you are a student with Monegasque nationality

Principle and conditions

All students with Monegasque nationality who are aged between 21 and 28 are entitled to coverage as insured persons at 80% of the applicable rate through the State Medical Benefits Office. This applies regardless of their place of residence, their parents’ place of residence, their parents’ health insurance scheme and their place of study.

To take advantage of this scheme, Monegasque students must return their duly completed and signed application form to the State Medical Benefits Office, together with the required documents, before their 21st birthday.

Coverage begins on the student’s 21st birthday and continues for the duration of the current academic year.

Coverage is maintained until the student reaches the age of 28, provided that they submit a certificate of attendance at an educational establishment to the State Medical Benefits Office at the start of every academic year.

1

Obtaining and completing the form

To get this form, you can download it here: Download file Demande de prestations médicales étudiant (369-0019_01-2019) Demande de prestations médicales étudiant (369-0019_01-2019)

Or collect it from the State Medical Benefits Office.

2

Collating the documents

The following documents must be sent together with the application form:

  • A copy of ID card or a certificate of nationality
  • Details of a bank account in the student’s name or, failing that, in their parents’ name (in the latter case, the student must complete the special section on the form requesting payment to this account)
  • A school enrolment certificate for the current academic year

3

Sending off the application to the State Medical Benefits Office

You can either:

  • Submit the form, duly completed and signed, with the documents to be provided, to the State Medical Benefits Office, from 9.30 am to 5 pm. No appointment necessary
  • Send it by post to the State Medical Benefits Office

If you are a student with French nationality

If you are studying in Monaco and resident in Monaco or France

If you are covered by the SPME as a dependent:

  • The insured person of whom you are a dependent must contact the SPME to request continued coverage for you. This can be done by writing a simple letter accompanied by a copy of your certificate for the current academic year
  • Coverage is maintained until you reach the age of 28, provided that a certificate of attendance at an educational establishment in Monaco is submitted to the SPME at the start of every academic year

If you are covered by the CCSS or CAMTI as a dependent:

  • You will be entitled to coverage through the "Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie" (CPAM - Local Health Insurance Office) for your place of study under the Universal Healthcare Insurance System (PUMA). It is your responsibility to contact your local office to find out what steps you need to take

If you are studying in France and resident in Monaco or France

  • You will be entitled to coverage through the "Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie" (CPAM - Local Health Insurance Office) for your place of study under the Universal Healthcare Insurance System (PUMA). It is your responsibility to contact your local office to find out what steps you need to take

If you are studying abroad (outside France) and resident in Monaco or France

  • Contact the CPAM in your place of residence or the CPAM for the Alpes Maritimes region (CPAM - Local Health Insurance Office) if you live in Monaco to find out what regulations are in effect with respect to health insurance coverage

If you are a student with nationality other than Monegasque or French

  • Whether you are studying in Monaco or France and whether you are resident in Monaco or France, you should contact the CPAM for the Alpes Maritimes (CPAM - Local Health Insurance Office)  to apply for health insurance coverage
