Principle and conditions
All children aged six to sixteen who are Monegasque nationals or living in Monaco must be enrolled in a state or private school in the Principality (Act no 1.334 of 12 July 2007).
For the first part of their secondary education, children attend a collège.
These schools cater for children aged 11 to 14, from sixième (Year 7) to troisième (Year 10). Successful completion of education at this level is recognised by the award of the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB).
For pupils who are Monegasque nationals or whose parents are legally resident in Monaco, and who are applying to enrol in the Principality for the first time.
For pupils enrolled in CM2 (Year 6) in a Monegasque school.
In other cases, a request for exemption is required from the Department of Education, Youth and Sport (DENJS).
School enrolment periods
For the school year 2023-2024, the enrolment periods for schools will take place:
- In state educational establishments from Wednesday 4 January 2023 to Monday 20 March 2023 inclusive
- In private educational establishments under contract from Wednesday 04 January 2023 to Monday 20 March 2023 inclusive
