Principle and conditions

You need to apply for a professional licence to work as driver of taxis or hired limousines in Monaco.

It is mandatory to undergo a medical examination and take a theoretical and practical test. 

See Ordinance no. 1.720 of 04 July 2008 relating to the regulation of taxis, delivery vehicles, official city vehicles and motorcycles on request

Formulating the request

 You need to make an application for a professional licence on paper as per the pro forma available:

  • Or at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office

Collating the documents

 You need to have the following documents:

  • A copy of an ID document (passport, ID card or residence permit)
  • A colour passport photo, against a light background, full-face, bare headed, of size 35x45mm, recent and which perfectly resembles you
  • A copy of your valid driving licence (Category B)
  • An extract from police records of less than 3 months
  • One means of payment (cash, cheques payable in Monaco or France and Visa bank cards only)

Submitting the application

You need to hand in the complete application along with the required documents to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.

Taking the theoretical and practical tests

After dealing with your application, the office will contact you by telephone to arrange an appointment.

Undergoing a medical examination

You need to undergo a medical examination carried out by a registered practitioner using the medical certificate available either:

 

The medical certificate must be dated less than 3 months and given only when the theorical and practical tests have been passed.

Completing your application

  • The medical certificate dated less than 3 months
  • For salaried drivers of hired limousines: certificate of employment or copy of work permit (issued by the Employment Office)
  • For taxi drivers: Ministerial authorisation
