Principle

Bowel cancer is the 2nd most frequent cancer in the general population.  The earlier it is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat.

The screening test consists of detecting traces of blood in stools.

Who it concerns

If you are aged between 50 and 80 and live or work in Monaco, this screening is relevant to you.

A letter inviting you for a OC Sensor immunological test will be sent to you every two years.

How to obtain the test

You can collect a testing kit from:

  • Your GP
  • The bowel cancer screening centre
  • It may also be proposed to you by the doctors of the Office of Occupationnal Medecine

For more information, please see : Screening for bowel cancer

This test is free.

How to carry out the test

You carry out the test at home.  It consists of taking a stool sample, which you send to the laboratory for analysis in the special pre-paid envelope supplied with the kit.

How to get the results

The results of the test will be sent to you or your doctor.

If the results are negative, you will receive another letter two years later, inviting you to carry out another test.

If the results are positive, this means that blood has been detected in your stools. Your doctor will suggest that you have a colonoscopy to identify the origin of this blood.
