Principle and conditions

This allowance may be:

  • An allowance for each dependent child
  • A fixed allowance for individuals who do not fulfill the conditions to qualify for the previous allowance

The following individuals are entitled to one or other of these allowances, regardless of whether they are the head of the household or not:

  • Civil servants who are employed by the Administration or who have been placed on secondment in another public establishment on 31 December
  • Other members of staff who are paid by the aforementioned Administration and who can prove at least three months of continued service on 31 December
  • Retired civil servants (Act no. 1049 of 18 July 1982)

The following individuals are entitled to the dependent children allowance:

  • Retired officials who were not civil servants, heads of households and individuals who are affiliated with the State Medical Benefits Office and who collect family allowances from the State

Civil servants and other Government officials who have already provided proof of their resources to the Department of Budget and Treasury in order to obtain the Special Allowance for the start of the school year (AER) are exempt from this new application which is required to obtain the end of year allowance.

Submitting an application to the DBT

You must submit the following documents to the Department of Budget and Treasury, accompanied by your civil servant (or government official) ID number on each document:

  • For individuals who are married
    • A copy of your payslip for December in which the year-to-date net taxable income of the spouse or other member of the household is detailed
    • Or, failing this, a certificate prepared by their employer specifiying the net income made from 1 January to 31 December of the previous year
  • For individuals who are divorced or separated, the monthly amount of maintenance allowances collected or provided to the former spouse
  • For temporary government officials who do not have two years of seniority and whose spouse (or the individual with whom they cohabit) does not (or no longer) exercises paid activities, a sworn certificate which confirms these circumstances is required

Civil servants or other Government officials who either collect the single wage (Prime au foyer) or the family support allowance are not, under any circumstances, required to provide any document.
